Regular Dental Examinations and X-rays

It is recommended to have dental exams every six months in conjunction with X-rays for early detection and treatment of dental problems. A set of eighteen small X-rays or big panoramic view are most commonly used to detect dental problems. Women that are pregnant or think they may be pregnant should advise dental staff before having any X-rays taken. People with a history of radiation therapy should also advise the dental staff as it may cause harmful effects on the body and unborn child.

Fillings

Dental decay typically results from poor hygiene. Decay limited to dentine (sensitive inner layer of the tooth) can be treated by removing decay and filling the space with a metallic or nonmetallic or synthetic tooth-colored restorative material. However, if the decay extends beyond the dentine into the pulp (chamber containing nerves and blood vessels) resulting in pulpal disintegration and necrosis can be treated by doing a root canal treatment.

Cleanings

Also called oral prophylaxis, is recommended every six months. Patients with a lot of tartar buildup typically require full mouth debridement and deep tissue scaling to remove tartar deposits from deep within the gums. We utilize several other aids that enhance the healing capabilities of scaled areas that provide normal healthy tissue, easy to clean and maintain. See Periodontics for more information.
